Whose Yearnings Rule
They (whoever they are) say "information wants to be free." But governments usually disagree with citizens about which information has that particular yearning. In the States, there was a recent revising of the Freedom of Information Act, which will make it a more efficient process, but, according to Steven Aftergood, of the Federation of American Scientists, "one thing it does not do, however, is alter the criteria for secrecy and disclosure," which lets the government continue to pick and choose among the aching-to-be-free bits and pieces of information.
